Training Your Poodle

Does your poodle like to do things his or her own way?  Do your commands get ignored or perhaps only partially obeyed on occasion?  Well, you're certainly not alone.  Most poodle owners learn very quickly that although they are sharing their world with a highly intelligent companion, that intelligence comes at a price -- a tendency toward stubbornness, if not properly trained and motivated.

Over the years, we've used training tricks and techniques gleaned from a multitude of different sources.  Everyone seemed to have a slightly different take on things and no one source seemed to pull all the best methods together.  That's why we were thrilled when we recently discovered three different resources that successfully bring some of the very best information together in slightly different formats.

We especially liked Daniel Steven's Sit-Stay-Fetch for it's excellent coverage and simplicity.  The downloadable manual and audio/video resource files make it easy to follow and put into practice in the shortest possible time.

We also liked Dove Cresswell's Dog Training Online.  Dove is a Hollywood animal trainer who pulls out all the stops on how to get dramatic results quickly and effectively.

And for a full membership site featuring the best insights of trainer Adam Katz, a great instruction manual, discussion groups, and monthly tips and techniques, be sure to check out Secrets of a Professional Dog Trainer.

Even though Poodles learn very quickly and are typically eager to please, training is the part of poodle ownership that many people seem to hate the most.  Let's face it, it takes time, dedication and patience.  But the results can be amazing!

So be sure to obtain the best training resource that seems most comfortable for you and stick with it.  You and your poodle will be very glad that you did.

...sit! ...stay! ...good dog.
